If you haven't ever played Gabriel Knight: The Beast Within, you're missing a real treat. Not to mention a slash-fest. If you have played the game, my work in progress Fade to Grey follows the game up until Gabriel is lying suffering (beautifully) in the theatre office, and then posits what might have happened had Gabriel actually got to read Friedrich's letter.
I'll probably be putting that story up in my FenJournal as I write more of it; until then, I've written a small piece that may or may not be in the same universe:

Gabriel and Friedrich spend a quiet Christmas Eve at home.
